the boys swore
to spite the chaperons, i danced cheek to cheek
sneak out at intermission, drink gin
or corn liquor with coke

my breast pressed heavy

was an ice cream con-man
with the boys who muttered in small clusters

we'd meet then go swimming
i'd sit under my sun umbrella
climb the high dive, show off some new steps
or imitate those i'd seen
