Pontchartrain Beach Songtext

pontchartrain beach
pontchartrain beach
it used to be beautiful
you'd throw a cast net off the pier
and bring up shrimp by the bucket full
but fresh water got mixed with brine
and all those shrimp started dyin'
i been sittin' on this pier all this time
and ain't got nothin' but the hook on my line
pontchartrain beach
pontchartrain beach
was better than the gulf coast
it had joey's seafood restaurant
and the zephyr roller-coaster
Joey's restaurant is still there
but there ain't nothin' left of the old zephyr
they said it was in dangerous need of repair
so they came and knocked down the whole fun fair
pontchartrain beach
pontchartrain beach
that's where the white folks came
black folks went to lincoln beach
but we all swam together in lake pontchartrain
fresh water don't mix with brine
but everybody there got along fine
it was hundred degrees in summer time
and nobody paid no-one no mind on
pontchartrain beach
pontchartrain beach
now the water is a different hue
but i believe a time is comin' again
when we'll be swimming in lake pontchartrain
you don't know how i miss it
getting beat up by my brother and sister
crying to ma whenever pa hit us
ah you got me reminiscin' 'bout
pontchartrain beach
pontchartrain beach
what did we do to you
you gave us the best days of summer
and this is our gratitude
fresh water mixed with brine
now the whole lake is dyin'
say your comin' back give me a sign
give me one good bite on this fishin' line
pontchartrain beach
pontchartrain beach
now the water is a different hue
but i believe a time is comin' again
when we'll be swimming in lake pontchartrain
